MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS, BOSTON
Past is Present: Revival Jewelry
Exhibition from February 14, 2017 through August 19, 2018
Exploring 4,000 years of jewelry history, this exhibition revealed the connections linking Antiquity and the Renaissance to the jewelry of the 19th and 20th centuries. During this period, archaeological discoveries, travel, and international exhibitions inspired jewelers to reinterpret ancient motifs or introduce them directly into their designs. Four pieces from the Cartier Collection, including a 1924 Scarab brooch with fragments of Egyptian faience and a Medusa's Head pendant from 1906 depicting the famous Gorgon, were selected by the exhibition curators.
