Museum aan de Stroom (MAS), Antwerp, Belgium

Dazzling desire

Exhibition runs from October 18, 2017 through January 14, 2018

MAS is hosting the Cartier Collection to commemorate the Year of the Diamond in Antwerp, the diamond capital of the world for over 550 years. To mark the occasion, MAS is hosting the L’éclat du désir exhibition and offering a psychology-based ethnographic study of how Western societies value and portray this exquisite stone.

The Cartier Collection joins in the cultural study by showing one of its most important pieces: the Cartier tiara that belonged to Elisabeth, Queen of the Belgians. A stunning interpretation of the power of jewels, the headpiece is on display alongside historic jewelry and contemporary creations. It brings back the famous words of the Prince of Wales, future King Edward VIII, who once said, “Cartier, Jeweler to Kings, King of Jewelers.” Another exceptional piece on view is a star brooch made in the early years of Cartier.
